Passed out pug.

While I'm busy studying my butt off for my last law school exams ever (wheee!!), Dexter is busy sleeping his butt off. In the strangest positions. It's almost as if he's taunting me ("I'm comfortable annnnd, you're definitely not.")

He sensed me.

Still, he's a great study buddy.

Dexter Quirks.

If any of you have ever personally met Dexter, you know he's got some ... quirks. Yeah, that's what I like to call them. He's not weird. He's SPECIAL.

Dexter snores more than a grown man. Also, he twitches. Kind of like he's possessed. It's scary.

Dexter also yawns on command.

I just realized how weird this post is. Whatever. Also, fuck that Boston bomber person. Dexter's smad.

Dexter the Triceratops.

Dexter's 2012 Halloween costume was epic. What should he be this year?

Dexter & Thao

Almost exactly a year ago, Dexter and I had a really awesome guest from Vietnam come visit us. Her name is Thao, and I agreed to host her through for one of our law school's international tournaments.

What really struck me was how close Thao became with Dexter over the course of just a few days. When she first arrived, I think she was a little uneasy around him, since she was not accustomed to having a dog in the house. But after a few days, they were like two peas in a pod! Here is a wonderful excerpt from the thank-you letter Thao wrote me once she returned to Vietnam:

"I also miss you and Dexter ... I am not a person who loves dogs. But Dexter is really a lovely boy. After seeing again my photos with Dexter, I almost cry as I recognize that my chance to go to Florida and meet you and Dexter seems to be zero. You can go to Vietnam and I can meet you, but you can not bring Dexter with you. I am regretted that I should have played with him more as I was in Florida."

We miss you Thao!

Sleeping is only fun if you're not a pug

Cancer-free pug!

As of last Thursday, March 28, 2013 Dexter is officially in remission from doggie cancer!

Before I told Dexter he's in remission:

After I told Dexter he's in remission:

See the excitement???

In case anyone is curious, about a year ago we went to the vet for a routine exam, only to discover that the bump on Dexter's head that we had always thought was a cyst was actually a malignant tumor. It turns out that Dexter had a type of tumor called a mast cell tumor, which affects mostly short-nosed dogs but can be found in other breeds of dogs as well. Surgery was performed and the
tumor was removed. Hooray!

Then came the news that Dexter had yet another mast cell tumor, this time on his leg. We went ahead with a second surgery last July.

I thought maybe that would be the end, that we would either need to place him on chemotherapy or radiation. But, luckily that hasn't been the case. Instead he was placed on a medication called Prednisone, which has been shown to stop mast cell tumor growth in dogs. In addition, Dexter is also taking liquid fish oil with his dinner as well as half a tablet of Selenium. So far (knock on wood) it's worked quite well! Dexter has not developed any new bumps, save for one small one on his neck that may or may not be a mast cell tumor but is not considered a threat to his health. Either way, it has stabilized and is very small. I took him to the vet for a checkup last Thursday and he seems to be in remission!

Dexter, you da bomb.
